How measured and quoted: We measure and quote the Piedmont to the outside face of posts. The beams and rafters extends 16" past the post faces to provide additional coverage.
Number of posts: an 18x18 size (17x17 post centers) is the largest size with only four posts. All sizes smaller than an 18x18 require only four posts. Any side of the pergola larger than 18ft requires a third post somewhere along the span to prevent sag. For example, a 12x20 requires six posts.
Assembly difficulty: Medium. About half our customers assemble their kits themselves. The remainder hire a local handyman or tradesman.
Assembly time: Two tradesman can assemble a 12x12 in under four hours. Less handy folk can assemble a 12x12 in under eight hours.
